Nu snakker Nintendo om et nyt Mario spil til 3DS.
Det nye spil skulle komme indenfor det næste års tid, og bliver ifølge Nintendo præsident, Satoru Iwata, "a key title for the Nintendo 3DS"
Han udtalte yderligere: Although there is no logo here, we are planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year.
Sidste efterår udgav Nintendo Super Mario 3D Land og Mario kart 7 til deres håndholdte konsol.
Hvert af de ovenstående Mario-spil har solgt en million kopier i både U.S og Japan.
